Product Manufacturer Product Description and Principal Function(s) The Flaik is a personal tracking device designed for skiers/snowboarders. Flaik fuses the technologies of GPS & GSM/GPRS to give riders the ability to monitor personal performance such as speed, distance, altitude and airtime. Data is mapped in real-time using Flaik’s web-based Location Software via SMS.Designed specifically for cold environments, the Flaik is able to transmit its location every seconds over a 15 hour period. Ski performance is automatically collated chronologically for users to browse, search, organise, replay and save. Results are sorted by criteria and statistics can be mailed to friends or posted on Flaik web community. Why does the product represent design excellence and why do you believe it deserves an Australian International Design Award? Flaik is a world first intelligent skier/snowboarder tracking device.It tracks and records run by run performance. Users can view their data on the Flaik Portal (www.flaik.com). Users can become part of the growing online skiing/snowboarding community. Users can: • Build profiles which can be personalised • Build snow history • Check their current location or the location of other riders • Plan their next skiing/snowboarding holiday • Chat to friends • View and share personal progress Skiers/snowboarders can be notified when they exit the resort’s boundaries or enter danger zones. Riders can be safe in the knowledge that if they get into trouble, snow patrollers can quickly/accurately locate them. Patrons, family, friends can also locate one another easily via WAP enabled phones, website or a kiosk. The ruggedised sports aesthetic and colour of the Flaik integrates heavily into the already strong corporate identity of the client, ‘Snowsports Interactive’. As the snow sports industry is highly fashion conscious, the Flaik was specifically designed to integrate with ski/snowboard apparel, while still fulfilling all design standards and requirements. ‘Snowsports Interactive’ have identified a need within the ski/snowboarder community for a performance tracking device that accurately and unobtrusively captures skiing data. The Flaik online community unites mountain users and provides a medium to which skiers and boarders can review their performance and share their mountain experiences with others. The Flaik is the first product of its type, and it will be launched across major ski resorts in North America this season. The eye catching red Flaik unit, is constructed from UV stable, ROHS Lexan EXL which is rated to be durable to -60°C. The two parts are overmoulded to create an IP 67 enclosure. The shock absorbing SEBS cover helps to insulate the Flaik unit from extreme weather conditions prevalent in resorts and provides protection from impact synonymous with skiing/boarding. The double stitched, high tensile strap is linked to the outer jacket via robust loops constructed from environmentally friendly recycled reinforced glass filled polypropylene. Flaik is extremely easy to use. It is supplied to resort patrons fully charged and switched onto the skiing mode. It only requires users to wear the devise while skiing. Data is automatically transmitter and downloaded off the device and availably for review/analysis on the Flaik web page. The Flaik Portal is an easy to use interactive website, it helps to connect and give users a sense of community. Flaik is safe to use, all components used meet/exceeded the requirements of the ROHS and Low Voltage Directives. Every effort has been made during the design of Flaik to ensure a reduced negative effect on human health and the environment. Flaik has been designed focusing on servicing and upgradeability. The entire product can be disassembled so internal/external components can be upgraded or replaced. This helps to reduce cost as functioning parts are not discarded. It also increases the life of the overall device as well as reducing its carbon footprint. Where possible recycled plastic has been introduced into the product. The system is highly energy efficient and has a very low power consumption. |
