The following assessment criteria apply for the selection of the First Round Shortlist, Australian International Design Mark™ and Australian International Design Award™. Some questions that the judges might ask when addressing the criteria have been provided below.

Australian International Design Award™ of the Year
Over and above the assessment criteria identified above, the Australian international Design Award™ of the Year:

is one of the top six performing products entered that year;
|
|
addresses all applicable design criteria to world standards;
|
|
breaks new ground in its area of product development;
|
|
might be considered an Australian or international design icon;
|
|
does more to promote the value of professional design to business and the general public than any other product entered that year.
