Product Description and Principal Function(s)

Hagerblu visage is a range of wiring accessories for the Australian and NZ markets.
Its principle function is to provide a range of sockets and switches which can be used in both commercial and domestic environments. Once installed, the design of the product allows the cover to be quickly changed to provide the end user a variety of finishes and colours.
The range includes 212 references, and is suitable for switching a variety of loads, including 10A, 15A & 16AX. It and can also be used with existing hagerblu mechanisms, accessories and the hager home automation system.

Key Product Features and Benefits

Hagerblu visage represents design excellence because not only does the end product satisfy our customers needs of aesthetics and functionality, an understanding of the industrialisation process and how it can be used to benefit the development of the range was also instrumental in formulating the approach to the design. Hager B&R implemented extensive voice of customer (VOC) research to understand the needs of the market, the problems and advantages with competitors ranges, and finally an analyses of the existing hagerblu range. Hager B&R approached not only installers (electrical contractors) but specifiers, interior designers and home owners.

Once the aesthetic of the product had been selected from VOC input, the mechanical design of the product was based on the hager platform design approach. Essentially this is a design approach which utilises common components found throughout the hager group worldwide. For hagerblu visage, the platform used in the product was the existing hagerblu range. All socket outlets and switch mechanisms are the same as used in hagerblu. However, to improve the industrialisation of the product, a system of exchangeable plates and switch rings were developed so that changes of colour can quickly be implemented in the production line. Quick changes in production allow hager to service the market at a more efficient rate. The availability of different finishes and colours was a key issue highlighted in the VOC process.

This system is currently under submission for an Australian design innovation patent.

Another key feature to the range is the use of a 2 part cover. This allows the cover to have the same clipping system as the current hagerblu range – the big advantage is that the cover can be removed many times without damage. Many one piece covers can be damaged permanently when being removed for cleaning or painting purposes. From an aesthetic view point – 2 part covers allow a greater flexibility in finish and colour combination. Other innovative features include a transparent blue mounting plate – the transparent blue colour helps to reduce visible arc flash when switching while still allowing visibility to mounting holes during installation, longer slots on the mounting plate for greater installation flexibility and a dedicated recess for circuit identification.

Underpinning all of these features and the product range as a whole is an extensive use of CAD modelling, DFM techniques and worlds best QC practice.

All products are manufactured under the same Quality control system used throughout hager’s global manufacturing facilities – ISO 9001:2000.

Every product is 100% line tested and every switch and socket is automatically tested for continuity, high voltage and switch operation. A sample of every product is regularly tested to destruction and once a month the products undergo full type testing according to relevant electrical standards to maintain process capability and stability.
