Product Description and Principal Function(s)

The Qantas Sydney First Lounge is a pre-flight departure lounge for premium Qantas customers. Located at the Sydney International Terminal, it offers 180 degree views of Sydney city and Botany Bay and welcomes more than 150,000 guests per year.

Lounge features include:
- a 48-seat open kitchen restaurant with menus by renowned Australian chef Neil Perry of Rockpool;
- lounge areas with comfortable seating and recliner chairs;
- a day-spa offering complimentary treatments;
- a private library with a diverse range of reading material;
- personal work suites, business facilities and conference capabilities; and
- a full concierge service.

The Qantas Sydney First Lounge set a new global benchmark in airline lounge design when it opened in May 2007.

In keeping with the fact that Qantas is an Australian company with a global customer base, the ultra-contemporary design is an amalgam of the best design and materials Australia and the world has to offer.

The original design was conceived by internationally acclaimed Australian industrial designer Marc Newson using furnishings and finishes that are amongst the best in the world.

Meticulous attention to detail went into the design process and fit-out to ensure a style result befitting one of the world's top tier airlines, as well as offering longevity and durability.

A muted natural stone colour palate, open plan spaciousness and selection of world's-best brands evoke a feeling of understated luxury from the moment guests enter via a reception area paved with Carrara marble by award-winning Italian company, Furrer.

The focus was on harmonious design elements to ensure a sense of cohesiveness to the space, which spreads across 2,000 square metres and encompasses a range of zones from business to entertainment to spa.

A spectacular vertical garden-with 8,400 plants personally selected by internationally celebrated tropical botanist Patrick Blanc-welcomes guests at the entrance. The garden extends across 30 metres of the lounge wall, bringing nature indoors in a dramatic yet sustainable way, cleansing the air and invigorating the senses.

Soaring, specially commissioned American oak sculptures segment the lounge into exclusive zones for dining, relaxation, business, library and entertainment.

Marc Newson custom-designed many of the lounge pieces, including the leather lounge chairs, recliners and sofas made by world-renowned Italian leather manufacturer Poltrona Frau.

The dining area features more pieces custom designed by Cappellini, complemented by signature design items such as cutlery and crockery produced by Alessi and Noritake.

The lounge offers a Payot Paris day-spa - an Australian first-framed by an extension of the vertical garden and featuring natural elements such as exquisite Swiss quartzite walls and flooring provided by Switzerland's family-owned Truffer company.

The lounge was designed incorporating Feng Shui principles and the form and shape of the layout have been assessed by an expert in the field as 'excellent'.

The Sydney First Lounge is a signature element of Qantas' renewed focus on world-class, innovative design that commenced with the introduction of the airline's award-winning Skybed in 2003.

Designed in tandem with the new Qantas A380 aircraft interiors, the lounge is the beginning of a seamless travel experience for Qantas premium customers-from airport to aircraft.

The lounge has exceeded all expectations, with Qantas recently achieving a 100% overall lounge satisfaction rating*-up almost 60% on pre-opening ratings.
