Product Manufacturer Product Description and Principal Function(s) Inspired by informal office meetings and breakout areas, the design of the Vibe Freestyle Lounge brings much needed utility to commercial designer seating. The key features of the design are the wide, flat armrests, which are the perfect height for laptop use, and the space optimizing storage shells within the arms. These storage shells are available lined with wood veneer, or fabric. By combining different finishes on the body and shells, specifiers are offered unlimited creativity to customize Freestyle’s look to their needs and vision. The freestyle lounge is available in 2, 2.5 and 3 seat configurations. Key Product Features and Benefits When designing the Freestyle lounge, the key emphasis was to create an item of furniture with function beyond simply looking great in a corporate setting. Freestyle has been designed to help workers get the most out of their environment, melding a bold aesthetic with useful and appropriate functionality. At the beginning of the design process, one trend in office environments was immediately apparent – as laptops free us from our desks, workplaces are increasingly using informal break-out areas to conduct meetings and encourage interaction between employees. There was an opportunity for furniture to adapt to these new needs. Functionality: Freestyles armrests are wide, firm and low, to provide a suitable platform on which to rest, and work on, a laptop, as well as papers or other material. Wide armrests can leave a large amount of dead space within the structure of a lounge, which is seldom utilized. Freestyle uses this wasted volume to create in-arm storage spaces, comfortably sized to fit books, magazines, handbags or folders. This makes it ideal for receptions, waiting rooms, public spaces, or break-out areas. Aesthetics: The inside of the arms can be finished in a hard-wearing timber veneer for extra longevity, or, for a bolder statement, in vibrant fabrics. This flexibility of matching either fabrics or veneers gives specifiers the opportunity to experiment with colors and finishes, creating a bold new statement with every piece. The open space created by the storage shells gives the Freestyle a visual lightness that defies it’s generous dimensions. Rigorously repeated angles in the arms, legs and seat back provide a visual harmony that ties the design together. Ergonomics The seating position has been designed to be relaxed, but still upright, in keeping with the nature of a working environment. Cross-over Appeal: While designed primarily for the commercial soft seating market, the Freestyle has great crossover appeal for residential applications. The clean lines and flexibility of specifying different finishes and colors makes Freestyle at home in any contemporary interior, while the storage shells are the perfect place to store and organize the clutter of everyday life. Quality of manufacture: The ethos for the design and manufacture of Freestyle was to take proven and reliable processes, perfected by many years of furniture manufacture, and to enhance these practices by using responsible and sustainable materials. Ease of disassembly and re-upholstery were paramount in the design of the lounge, both to extend it’s usable life, and to ensure effective recycling and disposal of it’s components at end-of-life. Fabric is not glued to the foam, and timber used is plantation pine, or low-formaldehyde MDF. The choice of stainless steel in the legs was informed by looks, durability and easy recyclability. |
