Fully featured, compact integration.
With a marked increase in single person households and inner city dwellings, the Breville Kettle-Toaster combo answers consumer needs for smaller, compact, yet fully featured kitchen appliances.

The premium stainless steel construction houses a number of innovative features such as; the ‘A Bit More’™ button for when your toast comes up a bit light, the smooth cushion-controlled lid safely cutting power on opening, ambidextrous illuminated controls and single power cord to allow for flexible positioning and a clean bench top. A new integrated direction for two kitchen staples.

Key Product Features and Benefits

Every Action Has a Reaction

Consumer research revealed a significant rise in;
• Small inner city dwellings, single living and also smaller family households.
• Cluttered bench space and tangled cords.
• Non matching appliances
• Complex shapes
• Kettles and toasters larger than needed.

This indicated a strong need for smaller, compact yet fully featured kitchen appliances. We set out to design a kettle toaster combination that would meet these consumer needs.

Fully Featured.
The first fully featured toaster kettle combination with all the useability the consumers have to come to expect, yet in a small compact appliance. Innovative engineering and production solutions were a key to the success of this design. The result a modern blend of clean aesthetics and solid engineering solutions, providing good functional design at an affordable price.

A number of innovations are fundamental to the function and success of this Ikon Kettle Toaster Combo design;

• A neat compact design, with a single power cord creating an open and clean bench top.
• A comprehensive cord storage system – suiting all power outlet locations.
• Full stainless steel construction.
• Patent pending method of integrating a kettle and toaster in a compact way.

Meaningful visual integration
Extensive development, trial and error and 2 sets of tools were thrown away in order to successfully develop these forms. Strong horizontal and vertical stainless steel surfaces with crisp corners were either deep drawn (kettle) or rolled (toaster) from a single sheet. Each method specially selected to maintain the visual aesthetic and prevent deformation of their independent yet assimilated forms.

Complimentary dark grey mouldings were designed to highlight the pertinent information on the control panel, and minimise visual mass, with red LEDs used subtly to communicate selections, and give feedback.

User Safety
Used independently or simultaneously, the kettle and toaster remain unaffected by the additional use of the other, yet their combined form has been thoroughly considered based on their proximity to one another.

The kettle features automatic power cut-out if the soft touch lid is opened while heating - preventing any possible splashing from a rolling boil into the toaster cavity.

Purposefully limiting the positions that the kettle can be placed on the base generates a safety clearance between the toaster body and the back of your hand; segregates steam and bread to avoid soggy toast; and prevents collisions between the kettle spout or handle and toaster body upon rotation.

We believe with these safety features this kettle toaster combination is now safer than a stand alone kettle and toaster used next to each other.
