Product Manufacturer Product Description and Principal Function(s) The Cinquo CinQo/Qranium is a multi-sensor cyclist training tool which measures, displays and logs many of parameters which affect the riders performance such as the power generated by the rider, his heart rate, GPS location, temperature and altitude, as well as the usual bike computer functions.The product consists of two components: a display module (Qranium) mounted on the bicycle handlebars and a power sensor module mounted on the custom crank (CinQo). The cyclist can use the Qranium to plan and execute a training regime that allows them to reach their optimum level of performance. Key Product Features and Benefits The Quarq CinQo/Qranium is the most integrated and cost competitive bicycle sensor system available. It measures, displays and logs the following information: power, speed, rider heart rate, distance travelled, GPS position, altitude, temperature and pressure, cadence, torque, acceleration, and deceleration.Prior to the development, the target market was comprehensively surveyed for design input from both professional cyclists and other potential buyers. It demanded a stylish, rugged, wireless, lightweight and waterproof product with a large, uncomplicated display and an intuitive user interface. The solution includes a level of integrated functionality which was only possible using multiple products. To widen its appeal to a significantly larger market than just professional cyclists, a low production cost was required. In consideration of the low production volume, careful selection of the components and manufacturing processes. Qpod - New Technology The CinQo uses a novel, patent pending arrangement of the strain gauges combined with a low power, wireless transceiver. This required many weeks of computer modelling, prototyping and trialling to reach a workable solution. Employing an industry standard wireless (ANT + Sport) rather than a proprietary protocol, the CinQo components can communicate with an ever increasing range of compatible third party products. While each component can work with other products, the user gets more information and features when operated together. Unlike its competitors, the product is factory calibrated and requires no tedious, inaccurate, setup by the user. Through intelligent microprocessor controlled power management, the user replaceable CinQo battery has a life of at least 1 year with daily use. A tough overmoulded enclosure enables IP56 sealing and a low unit price. Qranium - the Intelligent Display The product features a daylight readable, backlit 2.8 inch graphic LCD display which can be read at a glance. The information pages have been arranged for logical access using simple navigation keys. A unique feature gives the user the ability to create customised information screens using PC based software. Alternatively, they can use the many preinstalled configurations. The Qranium can display data in either portrait or landscape orientations based on the user’s preference. The Qranium data logs can be downloaded to a PC using a standard mini USB cable. The data format is compatible with third party data analysis packages allowing the user to buy the package that best suits their needs and budget. To meet the durability requirements, the Qranium enclosure is constructed from UV stable Geloy for the main body and scratch resistant PMMA for the screen. Weight is a crucial factor in competitive cycling and effort has gone into minimising the overall size. A balance was reached between weight and strength ability to withstand the impact of an accident. The Qranium’s construction reduces disassembly time for recycling in compliance with WEEE standards. It is also RoHS compliant and meets all relevant product regulations. In summary, the Quarq Qranium/CinQo is a clever combination of both novel and standards based technology. It exceeds the expectations of the market and is now available for half the retail price of its competitors. |
