Product Manufacturer Product Description and Principal Function(s) Safe-n-Sound Platinum-AHR and Meridian-AHR convertible Child Restraint provides protection for children up to 18kg.The product is used rear facing when the child is a baby. When the child reaches 12kg the child restraint is turned to a forward facing mode until the child reaches 18kg. The Platinum-AHR also has speakers installed in the headrest. Products come with seat protecting mats, sunshade, open mesh pockets and a baby insert pad. Both models come with either a manual harness adjuster or a push button retractor. They are fitted with a height adjustable headrest for superior head protection especially in side crashes. There are 4 models that come in alternative cover fabrics at differing price levels. The mass ranges are controlled by the Australian Standard. Key Product Features and Benefits InnovationThe child restraint provides excellent performance in front and side crashes. The headrest (AHR - Active Head Restraint) system adjusts up and down to a position beside the head to provide important side protection for the head for babies and children. The headrest is lined with EPS to absorb energy inside and rear crashes. The overall system allows for taller children and for superior head protection for the child. The Baby Insert provides protection for babies where the torso support needs to align with the headrest. The side wings of the pad have energy absorbing EVA inserts. Visual Impact The larger side wings provide side crash performance whilst still fitting in most vehicles. The side wings although dominant are very functional. The seat covers tend to dominate the look of the product and some seat covers offer some styling but consumers tend to refer to darker cover. Functionality The product provides a means of adjusting the harness to best fit the occupant and a means of operating the seat recline from the front for the comfort of the sleeping child. The headrest and Baby insert pad provide good positioning of the child, particularly their head. Originality Although Child Restraints can look the same, their function and design can make a significant difference in performance in everyday use and in a crash. There are 3 patents that apply to the tether strap, rebound prevention system and the headrest system and adjustment. Appropriateness The Australian Standards controls the mass ranges for each type of child restraint. Type A ( Rearward Facing Seat with harness ) up to 12kg occupant mass. Type B ( Forward Facing Seat ) 8 to 18kg occupant mass. The seat can take most larger children with the high position of the headrest. Longevity The plastic, the harness webbing and components are made to last for in excess of 10 years. The Seats are backed by a 5 year warranty with 2 years on the seat covers. Design for Manufacture This product is made with few components for ease of production. Ergonomics The size of the seating area, location of harness shoulder strap positions has been developed to suit most occupants within the mass range. The seating area has been developed for the progression of occupants from new born to the 18kg child. Safety The product exceeds the testing required by the Australian Standard ( the toughest in the world). In addition, these restraints have been crash test at -10oC and 50oC to prove its performance at temperatures other that 20oC. As with all Safe-n-Sound child restraints, regular testing ensures that the seats meet the stringent quality plan including crash testing one seat for every 1000 seats manufactured. Environmental Considerations Made from materials that can be used in vehicles and exposed to sunlight. Main moldings are made from recyclable polypropylene. Presentation / Packaging The packaging provides assistance to the consumers and provides visual impact for retailers. |
