Product Manufacturer Product Description and Principal Function(s) 1. An eneloop can be used again and again approximately 1,000 times, through recharging.2. With unique in-house technology natural electric discharge has been minimized. After 2 years the residual energy ratio is still 80% (90% after six months). 3. Different from a conventional nickel-metal hydride rechargeable battery, it can be fully recharged even when not totally drained. 4. Different from an alkaline battery, it is usable in low temperature (-5℃). 5. Battery exterior is antibacterial. 6. Usable for many types of equipment just like a dry-cell battery. Key Product Features and Benefits From July of 2005, SANYO Electric Co., Ltd. under the brand vision, “Think GAIA” has been promoting the theme of sustainability and symbiotic evolution, and this battery is the first product born out of this vision. In consideration of the global environmentand to create a clean energy society, we developed this rechargeable battery based on the concept of “No-throwaway” as a substitute for the 40 billion dry-cell batteries disposed of worldwide. Compared to existing rechargeable-type nickel-metal hydride batteries, it is unlikely to get self-discharged and has an energy residual ratio of 85% after 1 year, if not used. This makes it possible to be used immediately upon purchase. As it can be used again and again, approximately 1,000 times, it is more economical than a dry-cell battery. Its energy storage efficiency makes it an epoch-making battery. Different from a dry-cell battery, it is usable in low-temperature condition (-5℃). When creating the graphic design of the battery, we took a minimal approach and placed only a blue logo mark on a white case. In so doing we broke down the older concept of a battery’s design, and succeeded in developing an image that created a new genre. It has received many design awards, such as Gold Prize in Good Design Award 2006, German iF Design Award and Gold Prize in Japan Package Design Award 2007. In the initial design stage, the designers made global environment-friendliness an absolute requirement. With their enthusiasm for "achieving an out-of-the-box expression which will overturn the fixed image of a battery" based on the concept of "no-throwaway," they worked to create a design which can communicate to the world that amid growing concern over the deteriorating global environment a small battery could help to make the future of this planet a better place. The designers' love for this planet and passion for designing are crystallized in the eneloop design. It is not an exaggeration to say that the release of eneloop has heightened the awareness of the importance of environmental-friendliness throughout Japan. We will globally expand the marketing of eneloop and aim to globally realize a reduction of environmental burden through replacement of dry-cell batteries by eneloop. |
