Product Manufacturer Product Description and Principal Function(s) This high end single serve “drip filter” style coffee brewer is creating great excitement in one of the fastest growing categories in US small appliances.Designed in Australia for sale in the US, Canada and Japan. The user simply drops in a widely available sealed K-Cup, selects brew size, and presses Brew. At the end of the brew a blast of air clears the K-cup so it can be disposed of without dripping. Constructed of Stainless Steel and Die-Cast components, this uniquely featured brewer has a sculptural form that proudly describes its single serve functionality. Key Product Features and Benefits Last year Breville set out to make a mark on one of the fastest growing categories in the USA coffee maker market. We designed a coffee brewer that utilises the Keurig “K-Cup” technology:- a single serving of coffee in a patented enclosure that incorporates a small drip filter paper cone. The unique advantage of the “K-Cup” system is a single cup of fresh coffee or tea delivered on demand in over 150 varieties from America’s top roasters, and without transfer of flavour from a previous cup as with other systems. Over 500 million K-cup coffee pods have been sold this year.Drip style coffee is a huge part of the US lifestyle. The Breville brewer is designed to absolutely simplify the process, and yet provide the user with a range of options that include: • 4 brew sizes (the largest being a travel mug) • brew temperature selection • automatic switch on and off at any designated time • option for the machine to switch off 2hrs after the last brew If a customer prefers to use their own grind of coffee, the brewer uniquely provides a hidden option under the top lid. A soft press in the finger recess and the top of the brewer opens with a slow dampened action. Stored here is a small Stainless Steel filter basket and adaptor, designed to take two tablespoons of coffee, along with a spoon customized to dispense the correct amount of grinds without spilling. A step-by step guide on how to use the “My K-Cup” is permanently printed inside the lid. The stainless steel housing encloses a sophisticated brewing technology that utilises both a water pump and air pump to provide the correct flow rate at exactly the user specified temperature. The water tank is backlight with LEDs, and electronic sensing alerts the user when refill is required before the next brew. A new activated carbon filter system was developed and incorporated into the tank. Launched onto the market in October 2007 with great excitement amongst the retailers, already 30,000 units have been produced, with forecast of over 80,000 for 2008. Safety • After a pod is inserted, the user has 2 minutes to press Brew, it then goes into stand-by mode, preventing a child from pressing brew and dispensing hot water. • After the brew is complete, a short blast of air clears the K-Cup to ensure no dripping of hot water when it is removed. Visual impact/ aesthetics • The top brewing chamber and cup drip tray areas are the primary functions and therefore dominate the form. • The user interface and removable water tank are easily accessible. • The ‘My K-cup’ adaptor and dispensing spoon are conveniently located under the top dampened lid. • A large water volume and sophisticated brewing system are tightly enclosed in a resolved form which minimises visual size and bench space used. • A “timeless” design blends into kitchens and will not go out of fashion |
