Product Description and Principal Function(s)

Fully accessible drinking fountain offering excellent access and useability for both disabled and able adults and children. Principal function is to provide ontrolled dispensing of drinking water in public spaces.

Key Product Features and Benefits

This product services a community need, and resolves many shortcomings that exist in both domestic and imported versions.

Product life cycle and environmental considerations:
The product is fabricated using stainless steel. This means it is strong, easy to clean and maintain and extremely corrosion resistant. All mechanical working parts are sourced from major manufacturers, such as water control values. This means maintenance is simple due to easy availability of components. Access to maintain all working parts is considered, so major panels serve dual purposes of access, and water disposal. Access for adjustment of water flow can happen with minimal effort via a special access panel mounted in the side of the fountain body. The unit has an unlimited life span due to its robust construction and use of materials.

Relevance of external form and ergonomic considerations:
This is a product that is based on form follows function to a large degree, with shapes determined by the need for specific size and access considerations being the basis of the form.

Aesthetics:
This product has a simple form that considers ease of maintenance, cleaning of its body, prevention and easy removal of dirt, leaves, and other forms of contamination. The form considers the need for no sharp edges and flat broad surfaces to avoid injury through accidental collision of persons with the structure. Shapes in the body and handle that operates water flow, consider the need to grasp and pull towards the fountain to control body movements whilst wheel chair bound.

Design problems encountered and solved:
I have considered many ideal elements in making this product work better than its predecessors. The first of these is the use of stainless steel throughout so there is no surface finish that will deteriorate. Our previous model is cast alloy and requires painting. All working parts are internal in the structure, to avoid vandalism problems previously encountered. There is a water control value fitted, because this was a problem with each installation having different mains water pressure. The water catching dish takes water always through purpose-perforated holes. This stops leaves and other extraneous items being forced into waste apertures to block the dish. The bubbler is shed in the dish in the unlikely instance the unit develops a drip. The lever arm is of extremely robust construction, whilst maintaining all its requirements for shape for optimum function. This is because it’s the most vulnerable component for vandalism. The stainless steel body is folded in such a way as to form a very sturdy structure. Consideration is given to all aspects of connection and maintenance access.
